Especially for New ApplicantsNASM is pleased to provide you with information about accredited institutional Membership in the National Association of Schools of Music and looks forward to the possibility of working with you.
The music executive of a new applicant institution may wish to hold Individual Membership. This is the best way to keep current with the work of the Association while the institutional membership process is underway.
Please review carefully the NASM Handbook to ensure that your institution has the ability to meet or exceed all applicable standards for accreditation.
NASM strongly advises potential new institutional applicants to host an NASM consultant prior to the official on-site visit.
To start the process, you must submit the Notice of Intention to Apply form to the National Office. This should be done between 18 and 24 months prior to the projected date of the on-site visit. You may request a consultant by checking the appropriate box directly on this form.
Time spent gaining an overview of the process and the options for self-study will save time in the long run. Please read Official NASM Standards and Procedures for New and Renewal Applications and all the items referenced under Basic Resources and Forms.
Please contact the National Office Staff if you need assistance.
