Public Notice: Comprehensive Review of Non-Degree-Granting Standards

September 1, 2017

In August 2015, NASM began a multi-year review of its standards and guidelines. The first phase of the review focused on the standards of graduate studies in music. The second phase focused on the standards for undergraduate studies in music. This phase will focus on the standards for non-degree-granting studies in music.

The comment period for non-degree-granting standards extends from September 1 to December 15, 2017. We invite all representatives of member institutions, constituencies, music professionals, deans, accreditors, students, interested parties, and the general public to engage in this review. The comments received in the comment period will influence any proposals for changes to the standards.

Hearings on the non-degree-granting standards will be held on Sunday, November 19 and Monday, November 20 at the NASM 2017 Annual Meeting in Scottsdale, Arizona. No action to revise the non-degree-granting standards will be taken at the 2017 Annual Meeting.
