August 15, 2016
In August 2015, NASM began a multi-year review of its standards and guidelines. The first phase of the review focused on the standards of graduate studies in music. This second phase will focus on the standards for undergraduate studies in music.
The first comment period for undergraduate standards extends from August 15 to December 1, 2016. We invite all representatives of member institutions, constituencies, music professionals, deans, accreditors, students, interested parties, and the general public to engage in this review. The comments received in this comment period will influence any proposals for changes to the standards.
Hearings on the undergraduate standards will be held on Sunday, November 20 and Monday, November 21 at the NASM 2016 Annual Meeting in Dallas, Texas. No action to revise the undergraduate standards will be taken at the 2016 Annual Meeting.
