David Davies

David Davies is a composer and currently serves as Provost at Houghton College in Houghton, New York. Prior to this appointment, he was Director of the School of Music at Nazareth College. He also previously served as the Head of the Department of Music at Texas A&M University-Commerce and on the music faculties of the Greatbatch School of Music, Houghton College (NY) and Augustana College (IL).

Professor Davies’ music has been performed across the United States and internationally in venues such as Carnegie Hall and the historic Great Hall at Cooper Union. International performance venues include the Ghent Opera House in Belgium, the Culturo Jorge Borges in Buenos Aires, Unibes Cultural in Sao Paulo, and the Conservatorio de Musica de Puerto Rico in San Juan. His works have been included in the Basically Beethoven Festival in Dallas, New Music on the Bayou in Louisiana, the Sao Paulo Contemporary Composers Festival in Brazil, and the Frontwave New Music Festival in West Palm Beach.

A finalist for the Morton Gould Young Composer Award, Professor Davies’ works have received awards from the College Music Society and the International Arts Movement. He is a multiple Semi-Finalist for the American Prize for Choral Composition and has twice received Honorable Mention from that organization. In 2019 he was named the Distinguished Commissioned Composer of the Year by the Texas Music Teachers Association. In addition to his work as an educator and administrator, Professor Davies is an active organist and choral conductor. For several years, he has been an active member of the Society of Composers, Inc., the College Music Society, and the Christian Fellowship of Art Music Composers (CFAMC).

Professor Davies holds Doctor of Musical Arts and Master of Music degrees in Composition from the University of Miami. He received his Bachelor of Music degree in Piano Performance from Houghton College.
