William A. Meckley

William A. Meckley is Dean of the School of Music at Schenectady County Community College. He is former President of the New York State Association of College Music Programs.

Cited among the New York Capital Region’s “best jazz musicians” by Metroland Magazine, Dean Meckley is Music Director of the Empire Jazz Orchestra, a professional jazz repertory ensemble that performs original scores ranging from Gil Evans to Frank Zappa, and has released six CDs. With the EJO he has performed with jazz greats including Jimmy Heath, Benny Golson, Dave Holland, David “Fathead” Newman, Curtis Fuller, and many others. As a trombonist he has performed and recorded with the Albany Symphony, and Alex Torres and His Latin Orchestra. He has also performed with Aretha Franklin, Johnny Mathis, Yes, The Manhattan Transfer, Burt Bacharach, The Temptations and other internationally known artists.

Dean Meckley is a graduate of Fairmont State College, Ohio University, and earned a Ph.D. from the Eastman School of Music. He previously served as a member of the Commission on Community/Junior College Accreditation from 2004 – 2010.
