Caterina Bristol

Caterina Bristol is Professor of Music and Interim Dean for the College of Visual and Performing Arts at Alabama State University. She has presented on the topics of diversity in graduate music programs, 21st-century musicianship, and the use of technology for under-resourced institutions at national and international conferences. She coordinates an HBCU Composers’ Concert, featuring the music of composers from historically black colleges and universities. Dean Bristol serves as the Southern Division Chair for the National Association of College Wind and Percussion Instructors and is a Fellow of the Sphinx Organization SphinxConnect program. As a performer, she has commissioned and premiered chamber music for solo oboe, woodwind trio, oboe and saxophone, as well as oboe and trumpet.

Dean Bristol has served NASM as a member of the Board of Directors as Chair of Region 8, and as a member of the Nominating Committee. She was first elected to the Commission on Accreditation in 2019.

Dean Bristol holds a Doctor of Arts degree in Oboe Performance and Pedagogy and a Master of Music in Oboe Performance from the University of Northern Colorado, a Master of Library Science degree from Texas Woman’s University, and a Bachelor of Music degree from Ohio State University.
