Cathy Albergo

Cathy Albergo is currently Professor of Music at Florida Gulf Coast University and served as Director of the Bower School of Music and the Arts from 2012–2018. She previously served as Chair of the Department of Music at William Rainey Harper College in Palatine, Illinois and the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. Professor Albergo is a nationally recognized authority on piano instruction and is a frequent lecturer, adjudicator, and workshop clinician. She is co-author of the elementary piano method, Celebrate Piano and Piano Repertoire: A Guide for Teachers (Stipes Publishing Co. LLC.).

Professor Albergo is a past President of the Illinois State Music Teachers Association, served as Membership Chair for the North Carolina MTA and currently serves as Composition Chair for the Florida State MTA.  She also served as National Certification Chair of the Music Teachers National Association.

Professor Albergo was first elected to the Commission on Accreditation in 2018. She has served on the NASM Board of Directors as Chair of Region 4.

She holds a Doctor of Education degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, a Master of Music degree from Southern Methodist University, and a Bachelor of Music Education degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
