David Gier

David Gier is Professor of Music and Collegiate Scholar at the University of Iowa, and serves as Director of the School of Music. He teaches trombone performance and brass chamber music. Professor Gier taught for six years at Baylor University before coming to Iowa in 1995. An active orchestral and chamber musician, clinician and adjudicator, Professor Gier has performed and presented at many colleges, universities, and professional conferences, including the International Trombone Festival, the Eastern Trombone Workshop, the Music Educators’ National Conference, and the New York Brass Symposium. Professor Gier performs regularly with the Iowa Brass Quintet and the Quad City Symphony. His recording of mixed chamber music featuring trombone was released on the Albany Records label in 2007. From 1990 until 2008, Professor Gier performed as principal trombone of the Breckenridge Festival Orchestra under the direction of Gerhardt Zimmermann.

Professor Gier is a graduate of the University of Michigan, and received a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from Yale University.
