LUCIA UNRAU currently serves as the Director of the Greenwood School of Music at Oklahoma State University, where she also holds the position of Professor of Music. In this dual role, she oversees the school’s academic programs, guides faculty, and spearheads strategic initiatives, all while nurturing a vibrant musical community on campus.
Director Unrau’s professional journey demonstrates an unwavering commitment to music education, program development, and arts advocacy. For over a decade, from 2005 to 2018, she held the inaugural role of Camp Keyboard Coordinator at the Interlochen Center for the Arts. This position saw her developing and overseeing a comprehensive keyboard curriculum, managing a team of piano faculty and staff, and fostering collaborations with leaders from various arts disciplines. This leadership role was built upon her 25-year tenure on the piano faculty at Interlochen Arts Camp.
Beyond her institutional roles, Director Unrau has also served as President of the Ohio Music Teachers Association and maintains active involvement with the Music Teachers National Association (MTNA). She has also developed and presented workshops and conference presentations for MTNA and the National Conference on Keyboard Pedagogy. Her research on “Social Justice as Viewed Through the Lens of Arts Advocacy” has promoted greater accessibility in music education. She has served as a review panelist for the Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs. In 2009, she was named the OhioMTA Collegiate Teacher of the Year and she has received multiple awards recognizing her contributions to program development and leadership in music education.
Director Unrau has served NASM as a member of the Nominating Committee.
Director Unrau holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of Texas at Austin, a Master of Music degree from Indiana University, and a Bachelor of Music degree from Oberlin College Conservatory of Music, all in Piano Performance.
