Michael R. Sitton has served since 2009 as Dean of The Crane School of Music at the State University of New York at Potsdam. He was previously Dean of Fine Arts at Eastern New Mexico University (ENMU), and Professor, Department Chair, and Administrator at Hollins University in Roanoke, Virginia.

Dean Sitton has performed widely as a recital and concerto soloist, chamber musician, and accompanist. He has conducted master classes, workshops, and written for publications in piano literature and pedagogy; and is widely published and has performed as a composer, particularly in the area of choral music. While at ENMU he was active in the International Council of Fine Arts Deans. He has engaged in numerous campus, regional, and state initiatives in public and higher education in both New Mexico and New York.

Dean Sitton holds a Doctor of Musical Arts in Piano Performance and Literature from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign; a Master of Music in Performance from the University of Kentucky; and a Bachelor of Music from Mars Hill University located in his native state of North Carolina, along with the DiplĂ´me de concert from Paris’ Schola Cantorum, where, as a Harriet Hale Woolley Scholar of the Fondation des Etats-Unis, he studied piano with Gaby Casadesus.
