Robert Walzel

Robert Walzel is Dean of the School of Music at the University of Kansas. Previously, he was Director of the Schools of Music at the University of Utah and Sam Houston State University. For eleven years he served on the faculty at Texas Tech University and as Principal Clarinetist of the Lubbock Symphony Orchestra.

He is a past president of the International Clarinet Association and was a member of the Executive Committee of the Texas Association of Music Schools. Dean Walzel was previously an Artistic Ambassador for the USIA, the cultural branch of the U.S. State Department, and has performed and taught extensively on five continents. He continues to be active as a musician in classical, jazz, commercial, and church music settings.

Dean Walzel has served NASM as Secretary for Region 1 and as a member of the 2008 Nominating Committee. He was first elected to the Commission on Accreditation in 2013.

He received a Doctor of Musical Arts in Clarinet Performance from the University of North Texas, and Master of Music in Clarinet Performance and Bachelor of Music Education degrees from the University of Houston.
