Jean Wozencraft-Ornellas

JEAN WOZENCRAFT-ORNELLAS is Chair of the Music Department and Associate Professor of Voice at Meredith College in Raleigh, North Carolina. She previously served on the faculty at Eastern New Mexico University, teaching voice, vocal pedagogy, vocal literature, and directing opera and music theatre productions. Her service to music education has been recognized with her induction into the New Mexico Music Educators’ Hall of Fame in 2008 and she is receipt of the NMMEA Rollie V. Heltman Distinguished Service Award in 2016. 

A lyric soprano, Professor Wozencraft-Ornellas made her professional debut with the Cleveland Opera in the role of Lauretta in Gianni Schicchi. She has performed recitals, opera, and oratorio throughout the United States and abroad, including China, Spain, New Zealand, and Indonesia.  

As a founding member of the Trio Encantada (soprano, oboe, and piano) and a member of the Terpsichory Trio (horn, soprano and piano), Professor Wozencraft-Ornellas regularly appears in chamber concerts. Both ensembles specialize in performing new musics and have performed world premieres of chamber works such as Mark Dal Porto’s “Song of the Night,” and the first performance of Paul Stanhope’s “Songs for the Shadowlands” outside of Australia. 

Professor Wozencraft-Ornellas serves NASM as a visiting evaluator. 

Professor Wozencraft-Ornellas holds a Doctor of Music degree from Florida State University, a Master of Music degree from Bowling Green State University, and a Bachelor of Music degree from the Oberlin College Conservatory of Music, all in Vocal Performance.
