Lila Noonkester

Lila Noonkester is Associate Professor and Chair of the Department of Music at Lander University in Greenwood, South Carolina. A Lander University faculty member since 1988, her instructional duties include applied voice, theory, and opera workshop.

Professor Noonkester has appeared in master classes with Eleanor Steber, Joan Dornemann, Sherrill Milnes, and John Wustman, and has performed Ned Rorem’s Nantucket Songs accompanied at the piano by the composer. Her teachers include Irene Gubrud, Gerald Crawford, and John Maloy. A long-time board member of the Greenwood Music Festival, Greenwood-Lander Performing Arts, and the Arts Council of Greenwood County, she is also actively involved in the National Association of Teachers of Singing and the National Association for Music Education.

Professor Noonkester holds a Bachelor’s degree in voice from the Oberlin College Conservatory and Master’s and Doctorate degrees from the Eastman School of Music.

Professor Noonkester has previously served as Moderator for the NASM Roundtable for Small Music Units.
