Patricia J. Flowers is Dean and Professor of Music in the College of Music at Florida State University (FSU), a position she has held since 2013. Prior to arriving at FSU, she was on the faculty at Ohio State University, Columbus, where she served for 15 years as Chair of graduate studies in music, and received awards for outstanding teaching and research. Earlier in her career, she taught music in Ohio public schools, and served as a faculty member at the University of Texas at San Antonio.
Dean Flowers has a long record of research and professional publication focused primarily on music listening. She has presented her work in venues spanning school districts, state and national organizations, professional associations, university residencies, and international meetings. She has served in many leadership capacities in her field of music education, including Chair of the Music Education Research Council and extensive service as a reviewer for publications in music and related disciplines. Dean Flowers was the recipient of the 2012 senior researcher award from the National Association for Music Education. She serves NASM as a visiting evaluator.
Originally an oboist, Dean Flowers was educated at Kent State University (Bachelor of Music and Master of Music) and Florida State University (Doctor of Philosophy), and has received recognition from both institutions as a distinguished alumna.
