KRISTEN QUEEN currently serves as Director of the Academic Resource Center in the College of Fine Arts at Texas Christian University (TCU). She has also served as Interim Director of the School of Music and as Assistant Director for Academic Programs in the School of Music. Her recent research focuses on the importance of health and wellness for musicians, the programming of 20th– and 21st-century compositions for flute and piano duo, and paths to leadership for women in higher education.
Director Queen is a Registered Yoga Teacher and developer/instructor of the TCU course, “Yoga for Musicians,” and has presented at conferences, workshops, and universities both nationally and internationally about the importance of health and wellness for musicians. She has also presented at national and international conferences regarding leadership strategies, including the International Women and/in Musical Leadership Conference at Open University in London and the 10th All Ireland Doctoral Conference: Agents of Change in Social Sciences, Education, and Social Work at Queen’s University in Belfast, Northern Ireland.
As a flautist and collaborator, Director Queen is a member of the Ataraxia Duo. The group draws its name from the Greek term meaning “hearty tranquility with continual freedom from distress and worry.” Focusing primarily on 20th– and 21st-century American works, the Ataraxia Duo aims to foster and perform new compositions for flute and piano from composers across the country. With recent performances in the United States and Paris, the group strives to offer performances to new and varied audiences.
Director Queen was first elected to the Commission in 2020 and re-elected in 2023.
Director Queen holds a Doctor of Education degree in Higher Education Leadership from Texas Christian University, a Master of Music degree from Northwestern University, and a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Oklahoma. She is also an alumna of the HERS Bryn Mawr Summer Leadership Institute.
