Jeffrey E. Bush is Professor and Director of the School of Music at James Madison University (JMU), coming to JMU after administrative and professorial positions at Arizona State University (ASU). Before his tenure at ASU, he taught at the University of Regina and in the public schools of Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada. Professor Bush has held numerous positions with non-profit organizations—particularly the National Association for Music Education (NAfME), where his roles have included President, Western Division; the National Executive Board and National Executive Committee; membership on the National Standards Selection Committee, the Society for Music Teacher Education; and the Adult and Community Music Education Special Research Interest Group. Professor Bush has also had leadership roles with various state arts and music organizations in Virginia, Arizona, and Saskatchewan, Canada. He serves as a visiting evaluator for NASM.
Professor Bush’s research interests include community music-making, arts leadership, and music education curricula. As a percussionist, his performance credits include numerous professional engagements with orchestras, touring musicals, and artists throughout Canada and the United States.
Professor Bush holds Bachelor of Music Education and Master of Music in Performance degrees from Northern Illinois University and the Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Arizona.
