Kathryn Fouse

Kathryn L. Fouse is Professor of Music and Associate Dean for the Division of Music at Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama.  Her particular interests are in new music, connections between art and music, and curriculum design for the 21st century.  Her research has been presented at such institutions as the University of Illinois, Baylor University, the Dallas Art Museum, Gothenburg University (Sweden) and the Norwegian State Academy of Music (Oslo), as well as for the Music Teachers National Association, the College Music Society, the International Conference on The Arts in Society and the National Association of Schools of Music.

Professor Fouse maintains an active performing career with recent appearances in such venues as the Universidad Nacional de Colombia (Bogotá, Colombia), the World Piano Conference (Novi Sad, Serbia) and the soundSCAPE New Music Festival (Maccagno, Italy), as well as throughout the United States.

She holds degrees in Piano Performance from Baylor University (Bachelor of Music), Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville (Master of Music) and the University of North Texas (Doctor of Musical Arts), and her principal teachers include Eugenia O’Reilly, David Albee, and Ruth Slenczynska.
