MARY-JO GRENFELL is a Professor of music in the Music and Dance Department at Salem State University (SSU) in Salem, Massachusetts where she also serves as the Music Program Coordinator. Previously, she has held the position of Department Chair and served as Interim Associate Dean in the College of Arts and Sciences at SSU. At Salem State, Professor Grenfell teaches courses in music history, conducting, orchestration, and is the Music Director for the Chamber Orchestra and Summer Orchestra. She has served as the chair of the SSU Strategic Planning Committee.
Professor Grenfell is an active performer, playing clarinet and saxophone in music ensembles around the North Shore of Massachusetts. She served as a member of the Board of Trustees for Rockport Music and was also chair of the Education and Outreach Committee during her time as a Trustee. She is a member of the College Band Directors National Association, North Shore Chamber Music Society, and the College Music Society.
Professor Grenfell serves NASM as a visiting evaluator and has served as Secretary for Region 6.
Professor Grenfell holds a Doctor of Arts in Music degree in Wind Conducting from the University of Northern Colorado, a Master of Music Education degree from the University of Colorado Boulder, and a Bachelor of arts degree in Music Education from Colorado State University Pueblo.
