Robert L. Elliott

Robert L. Elliott serves as Chair of the Department of Music at Tennessee State University in Nashville. His career includes extensive performance experience in jazz, classical, and popular music styles, a decade as a school music teacher, fourteen years as a college band director, and another fourteen as a music administrator.

Professor Elliott serves as a consultant in the areas of music technology, music education, and commercial music programs; writes and codes technology-based instructional materials in music, and is the author of the nationally distributed textbook, Our World, Our Music. He serves on several international editorial boards, has delivered keynote conference and workshop presentations in several countries, and frequently leads student and faculty exchange projects with universities throughout the world.  Professor Elliott also continues his career as an upright and electric bassist.

Professor Elliott serves NASM as a visiting evaluator. He was a member of the Nominating Committee in 2020.

Professor Elliott holds a Bachelor of Arts in Instrumental Music Education from the University of New Orleans, a Master of Music Education from Loyola University – New Orleans, and a Doctor of Musical Arts from the University of Memphis and has studied at several other institutions.
