Stephen P. Johnson is the founding Dean of the College of the Arts at Azusa Pacific University, currently encompassing 34 academic programs and over 1,000 students across the School of Music, the School of Visual and Performing Arts, and the Department of Communication Studies.

Under his leadership, the College of the Arts has introduced multiple new degree programs and seen an increase in its endowment.

As a composer, Dean Johnson’s repertory includes numerous solo, chamber, and large ensemble works which have been performed in recitals, concerts, and festivals across the country, from Avery Fisher Hall at Lincoln Center to 20th Century Fox Studios.

Dean Johnson serves NASM as a visiting evaluator.

Dean Johnson received a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Composition from the University of Southern California, a Master of Music degree in Composition from DePaul University, and a Bachelor of Music degree from Moody Bible Institute. He studied composition with Edwin T. Childs, George Flynn, Kurt Westerburg, Frederick Lesemann, Donald Crockett, and James Hopkins.
