Armenio Suzano, Jr.

Armenio Suzano, Jr. serves as Dean and Director of the Greatbatch School of Music at Houghton College. Before joining the faculty at Houghton College, he served as Director of the Liberty University Symphony Orchestra, Director of Bands at Brewton-Parker College, and Professor of Music at Indiana Wesleyan University.

Professor Suzano has performed as a clarinetist and saxophonist with the Northwestern University and the University of Michigan Symphony Orchestras, South Bend Symphony (IL) and Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra (MI). Recent performances include the Frank Ticheli Clarinet Concerto in 2012 with the Stephen F. Austin State University Wind Ensemble under the direction of Frank Ticheli, and an All-Brazilian Music Recital program at various colleges in Virginia in 2013 and 2014. In 1983-84 he was guest soloist with the Amazonas Brasilienischemusik Jazz Ensemble in Berlin, Germany. At the age of 16, Professor Suzano became the youngest member ever of the renowned Rio de Janeiro Opera House Symphony Orchestra (Orquestra do Teatro Municipal), and served as their Assistant Principal Clarinetist for 9 years.

Professor Suzano holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of Michigan, a Master of Music from Northwestern University, and a Bachelor of Music from Stephen F. Austin State University.
