John P. Henry, Jr.

John Henry, Jr. is Director of the Program of Music at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University (NCAT). He also teaches the History of Gospel Music, Introduction to Music Literature, Sight-Singing and Ear Training, and upper-level Music Theory courses. Professor Henry served as Assistant Director of Bands at Texas Southern University in Houston, TX from 1994-2001, and has taught public school music (Band, Choir, and General Music) in Ohio.

As an active arranger and musician on piano, organ, keyboard, and trombone, Professor Henry has worked with numerous musical groups in various cities in Ohio, Texas, and the Carolinas. He plays bass trombone and sings in the Greensboro Big Band, and continues to lead his own group, The John Henry Ensemble. Professor Henry is active in the North Carolina Music Educators Association (NCMEA).

Professor Henry received Bachelor of Music and Master of Music degrees in Music Education from the University of Akron, and a Doctor of Musical Arts Degree in Music Education from the University of Houston. He is currently pursuing a Master of Christian Education degree at Apex School of Theology.
