THOMAS KECK serves as Director of the Division of Music in the Southern Methodist University Meadows School of the Arts (SMU). Previously, he served as Chair of the Department of Music at Utah Valley University and had over 20 years of faculty experience as Director or Associate Director of Bands at the Universities of Georgia, Miami, New Hampshire, Ball State and Utah Valley. In these roles, he oversaw concert and athletic band programs while mentoring undergraduate and graduate students.
At SMU, Professor Keck leads 95 faculty and staff in a music school offering undergraduate and graduate degrees and diplomas. He has hired and promoted faculty and staff from historically marginalized populations, reallocated budgets to align with strategic priorities, launched new degree programs, initiated curricular modernization, supported technology and infrastructure acquisitions, and revamped recruiting and social media initiatives.
Professor Keck serves NASM as a visiting evaluator.
Professor Keck holds degrees in conducting and music education from Arizona State University and the Universities of Illinois and Iowa. He also earned a Master of Arts degree in Higher Education Leadership with a concentration in fundraising leadership from Pennsylvania State University.
