THE NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF SCHOOLS OF MUSIC (“NASM,” “WE,” “US,” OR “OUR”) OWNS THE WEBSITE, MOBILE APP, OR ONLINE SERVICE (EACH, A “SERVICE”) WHERE THIS PRIVACY POLICY IS POSTED. THIS PRIVACY POLICY DESCRIBES THE TYPES OF INFORMATION COLLECTED FROM AND ABOUT YOU WHEN YOU ACCESS AND INTERACT WITH THE SERVICE, AND HOW YOUR INFORMATION IS USED, SHARED, AND SECURED. IF YOU CHOOSE NOT TO PROVIDE PERSONAL INFORMATION WHEN YOU USE THE SERVICE, CERTAIN FEATURES MAY NOT BE ACCESSIBLE. YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE IS ALSO SUBJECT TO SEPARATE TERMS AND CONDITIONS.

NASM may modify or update this Privacy Policy at any time; any changes will take effect upon posting. Please check periodically for any changes we may make, as your continued use of the Service following the posting of any changes means you accept such changes.

Please note that when you use the Service any information you provide will be transferred to and held in the United States, where the Service is located. By using the Service you consent to the transfer to, and holding of your information, and the collection, processing, and storage of your information in, the United States.

NOTICE FOR RESIDENTS OF THE EUROPEAN ECONOMIC AREA

Many features of the Service and the other services NASM provides are not directed to individuals outside the United States, but NASM does collect certain personal data (referred to in this Privacy Policy as “personal information”) from representatives of institutions outside the United States that elect to undergo a Substantial Equivalency evaluation. If you are a resident of the European Economic Area (“EEA”) and representative of an institution that undergoes a Substantial Equivalency evaluation, NASM’s collection and processing of your personal data is subject to the General Data Protection Regulation (EU) 2016/679 (“GDPR”), and you have certain rights under the GDPR. INFORMATION COLLECTED AUTOMATICALLY

As a general matter, each time you access or use the Service, the server automatically collects basic technical information, including your IP address or device identifier, domain name, referral data (e.g., the last website visited prior to accessing the website, pages viewed and time spent), login and access times, device location, and device information such as browser and platform type. We use this information, which does not allow us to contact you, for analytical and security purposes, to administer the Service, and to improve our services.

INFORMATION YOU VOLUNTARILY PROVIDE

When you use the Service, NASM collects personal information, which is information that identifies you, either directly or indirectly, and other information that you voluntarily provide. This may include the following types of information:

Personal Contact Information, such as your first and last name, mailing address, email address, and phone number.

Order and Payment Information, such as billing and shipping information and goods or services purchased. Payment information (such as credit card number, expiration date, and security code) is collected, processed, and stored by our payment processor, and the payment processor shares the last four digits of your credit card number, card type, total amount, and item(s) purchased with us. We associate Order and Payment Information with your online account.

Login Information, such as that you provide when you create an account, which is used to identify and validate you as a user (typically a username/email address and password).

Employment Information, such as company or institution name and an individual’s title.

Interests, Preferences, and Demographic Information, such as age and gender.

Content of Communications and Content You Provide or Post, such as comments, photos, and videos.

We collect information voluntarily provided by you when you:

  • Create and log in to an account;
  • Register for events;
  • Submit an application for accreditation or other review services;
  • Purchase NASM products or services or pay an invoice;
  • Participate in a survey or questionnaire;
  • Participate in NASM activities; or
  • Contact us with a comment or question.

The information requested and collected depends on the feature offered. Your participation in these features and your sharing of your personal information with NASM constitutes your agreement to such sharing.

HOW WE USE THE INFORMATION COLLECTED

NASM collects information from and about users to:

  • Facilitate use of the Service and improve the Service;
  • Register visitors for email updates, events, and other information and features;
  • Provide communications, such as invoices, order confirmations, program registrations, and surveys;
  • Fulfill orders;
  • Respond to questions and comments;
  • Troubleshoot issues and maintain system security;
  • Ensure compliance with NASM’s IT and/or legal policies, network requirements, and information security; and
  • Protect NASM’s legal rights and property and the rights and property of others.

Should you wish to opt-out of commercial email messages, you must notify NASM in writing or use the unsubscribe mechanism provided in an email message. Note, however, that if you opt-out of commercial email messages we may continue to send non-commercial email messages that we are entitled by law to send.

SECURITY

NASM strives to implement commercially reasonable security measures to help protect against unauthorized access to – or unauthorized alteration, disclosure, or destruction of – your information. Note, however, that no data transmission over the Internet is guaranteed to be 100% secure, and therefore, your use of the Service is at your own risk.

INFORMATION SHARING PRACTICES

NASM shares information collected through the Service with service providers who perform business functions for us and with other third parties. For example, we may share information for the following purposes:

  • Order fulfillment and processing;
  • Answering questions about products or services;
  • Consulting services;
  • Printing;
  • Hosting the Service and providing database and server maintenance and security;
  • Sending postal mail and email communications on our behalf; and/or
  • Managing events and processing event registrations.

NASM may also disclose your information (i) to safeguard the Service, intellectual property, users, or the rights of third parties, (ii) to investigate violations of our Terms and Conditions, or (iii) as required by law or in response to a court order or legal request.

THIRD PARTY SITES

This Service may contain links to websites operated by third parties, and when you interact with certain features of the Service you may be transferred to a website operated by a third party. NASM is not responsible for the practices of any third party operators or the content posted at any linked sites. We recommend that you review the privacy policy and terms posted at any linked site, as they may be different from those of NASM.

USE OF COOKIES AND SIMILAR TECHNOLOGIES

We and our analytics providers use cookies and similar technologies to enhance and personalize your experience, keep track of items in a shopping cart, save your user name and password, improve our content and offerings, and generate statistics regarding use of the Service. The information collected may include: IP address or device identifier, device information, search terms used, new or returning user, browser information, computer type, operating system, internet service providers, website usage, referring/exit pages, platform type, date/time stamp, content you access, and number of clicks.

There are two types of cookies – persistent cookies and session cookies. Persistent cookies remain on a user’s device for a set period of time, and are activated each time the user visits the Services where the cookies were set.
