Public Notice: Comprehensive Review of Standards Pertaining to Purposes and Operations, Two-Year Degree-Granting Programs, and Applicable Appendices

October 1, 2018

In August 2015, NASM began a multi-year review of its standards and guidelines. The first phase of the review focused on the standards of graduate studies in music. The second phase focused on the standards for undergraduate studies in music. The third phase focused on non-degree-granting studies in music. This phase will focus on the standards pertaining to purposes and operations, two-year degree-granting studies, and applicable appendices.

The comment period extends from October 1 to December 18, 2018. We invite all representatives of member institutions, constituencies, music professionals, deans, accreditors, students, interested parties, and the general public to engage in this review. The comments received in this comment period will influence any proposals for changes to the standards.

NASM will hold two open hearings to discuss these sections of the Handbook during the NASM 2018 Annual Meeting in Washington, DC. The first open hearing will be held on Sunday, November 18, 2018 from 4:15 p.m. – 5:30 p.m.; the second on Monday, November 19, 2018 from 4:45 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.
