Ronda M. Mains

Ronda M. Mains is Professor of Flute and Music Education and Chair of the Department of Music at the University of Arkansas. She has been Chair since 2008 and served as Associate Chair for the previous ten years.

Professor Mains is principal flutist of the Arkansas Philharmonic and performer with the Lyrique Quintette, Novaria, Spectrum Trio, Cholthichanta/Mains Duo, and Zephyr Trio. She has appeared as a soloist with many orchestras and wind groups, and she performed with the National Symphony of Thailand on national television with the Lyrique Quintette. She has also performed and presented papers at many national and international conferences. She is currently pursuing an interest in the performance techniques of ethnic flutes. Other research interests include learning theories, pedagogical approaches, and memory. An advocate of contemporary music, Professor Mains has been actively involved in commissioning and recording new works.

Professor Mains was first elected to the Commission on Accreditation in 2017. She served on the NASM Committee on Ethics from 2013–2016.

Professor Mains holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of Oregon, and Master of Arts and Bachelor of Arts degrees from Boise State University.
