Trilla Lyerla

Trilla Lyerla is Professor of Music and Chair of the Department of Music and Theatre at Baker University, where she teaches courses in applied piano, class piano, music theory, world music, and rock and roll history. She is a two-time recipient of Baker University’s Exemplary Teacher Award.

Professor Lyerla remains active as a church musician, clinician, accompanist, and adjudicator. She holds membership in Kansas Music Teachers Association, where she has served in various board positions since 1990, including that of President and her current service as Vice President of Local Associations.

Professor Lyerla earned Doctor of Musical Arts and Master of Arts degrees in Piano Performance and Pedagogy at the University of Iowa, studying with the late Kerry Grippe and the late Kenneth Amada. Following a year of study abroad with the late Roman Cantieni at the Bündner Lehrerseminar in Chur, Switzerland, she completed a Bachelor of Music degree in Piano Performance and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Germanic Languages and Literature from the University of Kansas, where she was selected to perform in masterclasses with Leon Fleischer and Menahem Pressler.
