Beverly Satterfield Brown

Beverly S. Brown currently serves as Chair of the Music Department and Director of Equity and Inclusion at Mitchell Community College in Statesville, North Carolina. Over the course of her career in education since 1996, her teaching duties have included band, clarinet, jazz, and music education curricula. Her research interests include music teacher job satisfaction and coping skills for healthy longevity in the field of K-12 music.

Locally, Professor Brown has served on the NCCCS Fine Arts Association Board and as the Community College representative for the NC Association of Music Executives By-Laws committee. She continues to perform as a clarinetist and serves regionally as an adjudicator and guest clinician. She facilitates and consults in the areas of equity, inclusion, justice, and belonging at the local, state and national level.

Professor Brown serves NASM as a visiting evaluator.

Professor Brown holds a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Music Education from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, a Master of Music Education degree with a concentration in music therapy from the University of Georgia, and a Bachelor of Music Education degree from Appalachian State University.
