H. Keith Jackson

H. Keith Jackson is Dean of the College of Creative Arts at West Virginia University (WVU), and previously served as Director of the School of Music. Prior to joining the faculty at WVU in 1995, he served on the faculty at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, St. Augustine College, and the North Carolina Governor’s School for the Arts.

Dean Jackson is active in both classical and jazz styles as a performer and clinician. As a recording artist, he can be heard on Joyful Jazz with the Pittsburgh Jazz Orchestra. In recent years he has given performances and clinics in Europe, South America, and Asia. Recently, he participated in the Consortium Commission of a new work for Trombone and Band, Divertimento, by Jack Stamp, and has been involved in the commission and premiere of a work by Shulamit Ran.

Dean Jackson’s performance credits include the Pittsburgh Opera and Ballet Orchestras, the North Carolina Jazz Repertory Orchestra, the River City Brass Band, the Phoenix Symphony, the North Carolina Symphony, the West Virginia Symphony, the Crown Chamber Brass, and appearances on recordings and public television. He has performed on several occasions at the International Trombone Festival and the Eastern Trombone Workshop in Washington, D.C.

Dean Jackson served NASM as a member of the Commission on Accreditation from 2016–2021, and was elected as Associate Chair in 2021. He previously served as a member of the Nominating Committee and as Vice Chair of Region 6.

Dean Jackson earned Doctor of Musical Arts and Master of Music degrees in Performance from Arizona State University. He earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Performance degree from Carnegie Mellon University.
