Michael D. Wilder is Professor of Music and Dean of the Conservatory of Music, Arts and Communication at Wheaton College (Illinois), a post he has held for eight years. Previously, he served as Chair of Fine Arts at Friends University in Wichita, Kansas, and as Professor of Music and Chair of the Division of Performing Arts at Southwestern College in Kansas.
Dean Wilder has been active in the areas of curriculum design, governance, assessment, and faculty development. A clarinetist, he performs with Camerata Chicago and previously served as a member of the Wichita Symphony Orchestra, the Wichita Ballet Orchestra, has been a member of the staff of the MasterWorks Festivals in the United States and in England, and has served on the faculty of the Credo Festival at Oberlin College. He is an active member of the College Music Society and the International Council of Fine Arts Deans.
Dean Wilder has guided NASM evaluator training workshops, participated as a presenter at various Annual Meetings, served as Chair of Region 3, and been a member of the NASM Commission on Accreditation since 2009. He was elected Associate Chair of the Commission on Accreditation in 2013.
Dean Wilder earned Doctor of Philosophy in Music (Music Education) and Master of Music in Clarinet Performance degrees from the University of Michigan, and a Bachelor of Music in Music Performance and Music Education from Iowa State University.
