Michael D. Wilder

Michael D. Wilder is Professor of Music and Dean of the Conservatory of Music and Arts and Communication Division at Wheaton College (Illinois), a post he has held since 2008. Previously, he served as Chair of Fine Arts at Friends University in Wichita, Kansas, and as Professor of Music and Chair of the Division of Performing Arts at Southwestern College in Kansas.

Dean Wilder has been active in the areas of curriculum design, governance, assessment, fund-raising, and faculty development. A clarinetist, he performs with Camerata Chicago and previously served as a member of the Wichita Symphony Orchestra, the Wichita Ballet Orchestra, has been a member of the faculty of the MasterWorks Festivals in the United States and in England, and has served on the faculty of the Credo Festival at Oberlin College. He is a member of the College Music Society and the International Council of Fine Arts Deans.

With NASM, Dean Wilder has served as a visiting evaluator, guided evaluator training workshops, participated as a presenter at various Annual Meetings, served as Chair of Region 3, and served as a member of the NASM Commission on Accreditation beginning in 2009. He was elected Associate Chair of the Commission on Accreditation in 2013 and Chair in 2016.  Dean Wilder was elected NASM Vice President in 2018 and succeeded to the office of President in 2021.

Dean Wilder earned Doctor of Philosophy in Music (Music Education) and Master of Music in Clarinet Performance degrees from the University of Michigan, and a Bachelor of Music in Music Performance and Music Education from Iowa State University.
