Welcome. We hope this finds you well. Thank you for your interest in NASM and its 100th Annual Meeting.

In November of 2024, in keeping with long-standing traditions as evidenced by the picture above, members, colleagues, and friends will gather in community to celebrate the abiding work accomplished by the accredited institutional members of NASM during the past ten decades—a period of time during which the investments of each institution have contributed to efforts dedicated to ensuring that music is and remains an essential aspect of our daily lives and the lives of all citizens, and that music study is made available to all students engaged at the collegiate level, as well as those involved in pre-collegiate and other settings.

Although some aspects of those earlier days, such as hats and spats, have long since faded into our past and from our memories, our collective commitment to the purposes of the Association has not. Now, 100 years later, our efforts to:

  • advance the cause of music in American life and especially in higher education;
  • establish and maintain threshold standards for the education of musicians, while encouraging both diversity and excellence; and
  • provide a national forum for the discussion of issues related to these purposes

continue to inform our considerations, deliberations, and actions.

We continue to embrace a collectively shared vision, which has guided the work of NASM through challenges faced by our citizens such as economic downturn, war, and public health crises, to name only a few.

We are beyond fortunate in so many ways. Our riches are bountiful, but as well, they are a result of our hard work. This work must continue. To this end, the 2024 Annual Meeting program highlights for our consideration issues and challenges we must face and work through today and together if we are to pave the way for our future.

In November, members of NASM will conduct the business of the Association; attendees will participate in professional development sessions that are intended not only to spur thoughts and promote the consideration of possibilities, but to advance the understandings and capabilities of music executives who currently hold the responsibility to lead and manage music programs; and individuals will deepen their knowledge of the NASM peer review process, particularly the assistance this service provides to institutions as they consider, guided by their mission, goals, and objectives, how they, on their own terms, can effectively advance the education and training of students enrolled in music study.

We look forward to being and working with you in Chicago, and to setting the stage together for the next 100 years.

Thank you.
